BCGEU-CEU OHS Conference
Every two years, the BCGEU jointly hosts a two-day conference on health and safety with the Compensation Employees' Union (CEU). The CEU represents employees at the Workers' Compensation Board, and is affiliated to the BCGEU. Our partnership with the CEU to sponsor health and safety conferences has been ongoing since 2007. The Provincial Executive OHS committee, including representatives from the CEU, plays a lead role in organizing the conference.
2019's conference "Raising the Bar: Building Psychologically Safe and Health Workplaces," focused on how OHS representatives can both support good mental health and help to prevent psychological injury at their workplaces. Held the Pacific Gateway Hotel in Richmond, BC on October 4-5 2019, keynote speakers and workshops engaged nearly 100 participants in dynamic discussion about these important issues.

Labour Code OHS Facilitator Conference
Labour Code OHS facilitators gather on an annual basis for team building, professional and personal development. OHS Facilitators are relied on to deliver effective health and safety training to hundreds of OHS representatives, both worker and employer, province wide. Their ability to facilitate occupational health and safety courses can greatly reduce incidents of injury and illness at our BCGEU worksites.
Our 2019 Labour Code OHS Facilitator Conference was October 17th and 18th at BCGEU headquarters in Burnaby. The theme was “It Starts With Us,” and facilitators had a productive two days reviewing our new OHS courses, building their skills and learning about mental health in the workplace. They also got new toques and participated in the “Great Shakeout” earthquake drill!
